Who We Are, And Why We Exist

The end goal of the Set Them Up Foundation is to permanently lift people out of poverty in the UK, and eventually the world.

How will we get there? By teaching children the fundamentals of finance.

Throughout our journey, coloured with countless conversations with members of educational institutions, we've identified a financial literacy gap.

Financial illiteracy in one child can lead to chronic poverty. This is where whole generations are born into hardship. Beyond the level of the family, the knowledge gap takes on a destructive domino effect that impacts...  Our community  Our society  Our world

Yes. Alleviating child poverty through the power of knowledge is a massive, multi-layered mission...  But it all starts with one child.  That's why it's our passionate purpose to fill this gap, and help transform children's financial futures — one bite-sized lesson at a time.

What we do

The Set Them Up Foundation will be delivering engaging and rewarding lessons for children aged 15 to 19, around...

● Financial planning. Developing good money habits early on is key to financial responsibility.

● Investments. Most children are more than capable of grasping crucial concepts like stocks and bonds.

● Mortgage and rental advice. The basic understanding that things cost money is a vital aspect of financial literacy.

● Pensions. The simple ideas of saving and planning for retirement can transform a child's financial future.

Why did you start the Set Them Up Foundation – I have been employed pretty much since the day I left secondary school, I have always made a decent wage however after 20 years of work I didn’t have much to show for all the effort I had put into my jobs. I would like to teach Children from similar backgrounds to myself how to manage, save and invest money to provide them with a better start in life.

Goal - To  provide free financial Education to children from lower class backgrounds from the ages of 15 – 19 across the world and setting them up for a financially secure future. I would also like to support those children who take a particular interest into learning Finance and helping them into further education and developing their careers. Who knows I may discover the next Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos.

Why did you start the Set Them Up Foundation –  At the age of 16 when I left school I felt like I was ignorant to how the rental process, mortgage and general finances worked because of this it put me off and made the situation more stressful and I made misinformed decisions. The older me would tell me what I know so why would you not want less stress for our future generations. With Set Them Up Foundation we would love each student to come away better informed, more confident and less anxious on their life decisions to come.

Goal -  We are keen to reach out to as many underprivileged children as possible. Giving them a greater chance than the statistics of poverty that are represented in each borough. We would like our classes soon to be taught in schools across the globe positively impacting a future generation. We would like to help children get into further education and we will be actively assisting the younger generation finding gainful employment.

I have 25 years’ experience working in childcare, working with children from the ages of 2 – 19.  I believe the Set Them Up Foundation is a great cause and will benefit children especially those coming from low-income households. The set them up foundation will give children and young adults a better opportunity to make a great start to their financial futures.
